Japanese Larch is John's favorite tree for growing into bonsai. It grows quickly, backbuds well, has great bark, is extremely flexible, and has great fall color.
The Achilles heel is that it needs a cold winter to survive, sorry San Diego!
This tree has been root worked once in order to improve the root flare.
The trunk is about the thickness of a pencil.
It has nice branching and will make a fantastic smaller tree within a few years, or can be grown out to make a larger tree.
